Why Plant a Cherry Blossom Tree

The mesmerizing blooms of cherry blossom trees are celebrated around the world, signaling the arrival of spring with clouds of delicate pink or white flowers. Not only are cherry blossom trees breathtakingly beautiful, but they also provide an excellent source of shade and habitat for pollinators. Whether you’re looking for an eye-catching specimen for your front yard or a graceful statement tree for a public space, cherry blossoms are an inspired choice.

Which Cherry Blossom to Choose?

While searching for a "cherry blossom tree bunnings" collection, you’ll discover that options can be limited and popular varieties sometimes sell out quickly. Our nursery offers a stunning range, including the ever-popular Prunus Accolade, renowned for its early, semi-double pink flowers. This ornamental cherry bursts into life in spring, filling your garden with vibrant colour and attracting native birds and bees.

For those interested in larger blossoms or unique forms, Prunus Accolade is a customer favourite, known for its beautiful arching branches and impressive cold hardiness, making it ideal for most regions across New Zealand.

Fruiting Cherry Trees for Your Garden

If you love the look of cherry blossoms but also want a harvest of delicious fruit, consider our premium fruiting cherry varieties. The golden-fleshed Cherry Rainier is legendary for its sweetness and firm texture, while the dark-red Cherry Dawson is celebrated by home gardeners for its reliable cropping and zingy, full-flavoured taste. Each of these cherry trees offers both springtime beauty and late summer treats for your fruit bowl.

Other top picks include the versatile Cherry Modesto and the striking Cherry Griotella Frumi, both ideal for those looking to expand their garden’s palette with different cherry varieties.

Cherry Blossom Trees—A Sustainable Choice

Opting for a cherry blossom tree is not just about aesthetics. These hardy trees are well-adapted to New Zealand conditions, thriving in well-drained soil and full sun. They’re also relatively low maintenance, making them a favourite among both seasoned gardeners and those just starting out.

How to Grow and Care for Your Cherry Blossom

For best results, plant your cherry blossom tree in a sunny position with protection from strong winds. Regular watering in the first few seasons helps the tree establish, and an annual application of mulch will ensure optimal moisture retention and soil health. With the right care, your cherry blossom will reward you with decades of stunning spring displays.
