Why Buy Tree Fern for Your Garden?

Tree ferns bring instant drama and structure to almost any outdoor space. Their elegant fronds unfurl with a prehistoric beauty, making them focal points in both contemporary and native-inspired gardens. In addition to their striking appearance, tree ferns are also hardy, shade-tolerant, and low-maintenance once established. When you buy tree fern varieties suited to your site, you’ll be rewarded with years of evergreen foliage and habitat for birds and insects.

Popular Tree Fern Varieties in New Zealand

We offer several tree fern species ideal for home gardens, shelterbelts, and landscaping projects. Each variety has its own unique features suited to different spaces:

Growing and Caring for Tree Ferns

When you buy tree fern plants from us, you’re investing in quality and success. Tree ferns prefer moist, well-draining soil, and dappled shade replicates their natural forest habitat. Regular watering, especially during dry spells, keeps the fronds lush. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and keep roots cool. With the right spot and a bit of basic care, your tree ferns can thrive for many years.

For smaller gardens or indoor features, choose species like Blechnum fraseri (Miniature Tree Fern) or Blechnum 'Silver Lady' (Dwarf Tree Fern). If you have space to fill or want a classic native look, the Cyathea smithii (Ponga Fern) or Cyathea cunninghamii (Slender Tree Fern) are excellent choices.
