Why Choose Olive Trees for New Zealand Gardens?

Olive trees are renowned for their resilience, drought tolerance, and ability to thrive in a variety of soil types—perfect for many regions across New Zealand. Their silvery leaves and compact growth habit make them a stunning addition to any garden, while their fruit is valued for table use and pressing into homemade olive oil. If you’re after a productive, attractive low-maintenance tree, it’s time to buy olive trees NZ-wide from our carefully curated collection.

Top Olive Varieties Available

We stock some of the most popular and robust olive varieties. For reliable cropping and versatility, check out the Olive Mission. This classic variety produces excellent fruit for both oil and eating, and is well-suited to New Zealand backyards. If you're seeking something a little different, the Olive Moraiolo is prized for its high oil content and robust flavour—ideal for the home olive oil enthusiast.

How to Grow and Care for Olive Trees in NZ

Olive trees appreciate a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Once established, they need very little water, making them perfect for sustainable gardens. Prune lightly to shape and encourage airflow, and feed annually with a slow-release fertiliser for best results. Container growing is also an option for smaller spaces or decorative patios.

Enhance Your Garden with Complementary Plants

While choosing to buy olive trees NZ wide, consider mixing in other versatile and attractive species. For shade and structure, the Acacia melanoxylon (Blackwood Wattle) offers fast growth and native biodiversity value. The Beilschmiedia tarairi (Taraire) is another excellent choice for those interested in adding native canopy trees to their garden. For something lush and low-maintenance, the hardy Crassula ovata (Money Tree) pairs beautifully with Mediterranean landscapes and makes a great container companion.
