If you’re interested in foliage and indoor options, explore Cissus rhombifolia (Grape Ivy), a close relation to grape vines, well-suited to indoor gardens or as an elegant climber for shaded outdoor spaces.

Tips for Planting and Growing Grape Vines

When you buy grape vines to establish in your garden, choose a spot with full sun, well-drained soil, and protection from cold winds. Grape vines thrive with support, so consider training them along a fence, pergola, or trellis. Regular pruning not only shapes your plant but helps ensure the best possible crops each year.

Grapes are well-adapted for much of New Zealand, from the warm north down into sheltered southern gardens. They’re surprisingly drought-tolerant once mature, but young vines benefit from consistent watering and mulching.
