Why Buy Climbing Roses for Your Garden?

Climbing roses offer structure, height, and romance few other plants can match. Unlike bush roses, climbing varieties produce long, flexible canes that can be trained up trellises and walls, softening harsh surfaces and adding lush greenery. Their versatile growth habit makes them perfect for small spaces, providing vertical interest and screening unsightly areas. Choosing to buy climbing roses means investing in years of beauty. Many are exceptionally fragrant and attract bees and beneficial pollinators.

Popular Climbing Roses Available

We’ve curated a collection of climbing roses renowned for their garden performance, disease resistance, and spectacular flowers. Find the right one for your space:

Rosa banksiae 'Alba' (Banksia Rose) is a vigorous, nearly thornless climber that delivers clouds of small, pure white, lightly scented blooms in spring. Exceptionally trouble-free and ideal for covering fences or outbuildings.
Rosa banksiae 'Lutea' (Banksia Rose) stands out for its masses of soft yellow, semi-double flowers. This robust climber offers excellent coverage and early blooming.
Rosa 'Iceberg' Climbing is famed for its crisp, white blooms held in generous clusters and remarkable repeat flowering. It’s a firm favourite for modern or cottage-style gardens, producing flowers from spring into autumn.
Rose Albertine is prized for its strong scent and romantic, coppery pink flowers. Vigorous yet manageable, it’s perfect for pergolas or along sunny walls.
Crepuscle Rose (Crepuscule Rose) offers apricot-orange blooms and a delightful perfume. Its relaxed, arching habit makes it a statement choice for informal garden settings.

Tips for Growing Climbing Roses in NZ

To ensure your climbing roses flourish, plant them in a position with at least six hours of sun and good air movement—this helps maintain healthy foliage. Use quality soil rich in organic matter and keep roots cool with mulch. Tie new canes horizontally to supports for improved flowering and prune annually to remove dead stems and encourage fresh growth. With the right care, the impact and beauty of climbing roses will reward you for decades.
