Why Choose Cherry Blossom Trees for New Zealand Gardens

Cherry blossom trees, from classic ornamental varieties to fruiting cultivars, are a top choice for gardeners who want to enjoy dramatic spring colour. These trees are not only striking when in bloom but are surprisingly easy to care for once established. Their graceful form provides structure to garden beds year-round, while the spring blossoms create a show-stopping focal point every year. Whether you want a single statement tree or to line a driveway or pathway, cherry blossom trees adapt beautifully to a wide range of NZ climates.

Explore Our Favourite Cherry Trees

We offer several popular cherry blossom varieties so you can buy cherry blossom tree NZ with total confidence. One highly sought-after option is the Prunus Accolade, renowned for its semi-double, soft pink blooms and vigorous, upright growth habit. This cultivar is perfect for those wanting a truly ornamental flowering cherry.

If you’re interested in cherries that are both beautiful and productive, consider our fruiting selections. The Cherry Rainier is prized for its large, yellow-red cherries and attractive spring display. Cherry Dawson produces firm, classic dark cherries and is a reliable choice for home orchards. For warmer locations, Cherry Modesto is known for its excellent heat tolerance and robust growth. And for something unique, Cherry Griotella Frumi gives you tart, richly flavoured fruit ideal for preserves as well as beautiful blossoms.

Planting and Caring for Your Cherry Blossom Tree

When you buy cherry blossom tree NZ, it’s important to select a sunny spot with well-drained soil. These trees thrive in locations that receive full sun and benefit from protection from harsh winds, especially in the early years. Water deeply after planting and mulch well around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and remove any dead or crossing branches.

Fruiting cherry varieties like those above will need cross-pollination to set the best crops, so planting two compatible trees can boost your harvest. Ornamental varieties, meanwhile, require little beyond basic maintenance and bring years of beauty to your outdoor space.
