Why Choose Buxus as a Hedge?

Buxus hedging plants are loved for their dense, compact foliage and slow, manageable growth. This makes them ideal for crisp low borders, intricate knot gardens, and elegantly shaped screens. With regular trimming, your buxus hedge stays lush and tidy all year round, offering structure and privacy with minimal fuss. Buxus also thrives in full sun or partial shade, coping well with varied soils in New Zealand gardens.

Our Range of Buxus Hedging Plants for Sale

We offer a curated range of buxus species and cultivars, each suited to different hedge styles and garden sizes. Looking for classic deep green? Buxus sempervirens (Boxwood) is a traditional choice and grows into a dense, glossy hedge over time. For those after a unique accent, Buxus sempervirens 'Silver Beauty' (Silver Boxwood) features subtle variegated silver foliage that adds a touch of sophistication to your garden design.

If you prefer a low-growing, ultra-compact hedge for parterre borders or edging paths, Buxus 'Green Gem' is a top performer with its sturdy, rounded growth and resilience to disease. Meanwhile, Buxus microphylla (Littleleaf Boxwood) is well-suited for tight, clipped shapes or hedges in smaller spaces thanks to its fine leaf structure and neat habit.

For an extra dash of elegance, consider Buxus sempervirens 'variegata', which brings creamy-edged foliage to brighten shady corners or add highlights within large formal hedges.

Planting and Caring for Your Buxus Hedge

Achieving a thick, healthy hedge with your buxus hedging plants for sale is easy with the right care. Plant your boxwood in well-drained soil, spacing each plant evenly for seamless growth. Keep the roots moist (but never waterlogged), especially while young, and mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Trim once or twice a year for the iconic crisp lines buxus is famous for.

If you’re planting an instant neat border or a grand formal avenue, check out our selection of Buxus sempervirens (Boxwood), or mix in striking options like Buxus sempervirens 'Silver Beauty' (Silver Boxwood) for contrast.
