Why Choose Buxus for Hedging?

Buxus, commonly known as boxwood, is prized for its slow to moderate growth rate, making it easy to shape and maintain crisp edges with regular trimming. This flexibility enables you to design intricate knot gardens, neat pathways, or attractive topiaries. With exceptional tolerance for clipping and good adaptability to pruning, buxus hedges remain a favourite amongst landscape designers and home gardeners alike.

Premium Varieties Available

We offer multiple buxus varieties to suit your vision for the garden. Explore standout options like the resilient Buxus 'Winter Gem', known for its excellent winter colour and hardiness, or the versatile Buxus microphylla 'Japonica' (Japanese Box), which grows well in New Zealand conditions and responds beautifully to shaping.

For those after an ornamental touch, Buxus sempervirens 'Silver Beauty' (Silver Boxwood) adds fresh appeal with its subtly variegated foliage. If you prefer something robust and reliable, Buxus sinica var Insularis offers strong disease resistance and lush growth, perfect for long-lasting hedges. For formal or larger-scale designs, consider Buxus 'Handsworthiensis' with its upright form and classic deep green leaves.

Planting and Care Tips

Plant your buxus hedging in well-drained soil, in a sunny to lightly shaded position for optimal growth. Trim in late summer or early autumn to keep edges crisp, and mulch annually to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Regular watering during dry spells ensures healthy, robust plants. With a little attention, buxus hedges remain compact and vibrant all year round.
