Why Choose Buxus 'Green Gem'?

Buxus 'Green Gem' stands out for its compact, rounded growth habit and dense, glossy leaves. It grows slower than other boxwoods, making it easy to maintain at your preferred height and shape. This variety thrives in both sun and partial shade and can tolerate a range of soil types, provided drainage is good.

Gardeners across New Zealand pick Buxus 'Green Gem' for its resilience against disease, ability to withstand regular trimming, and classic look. Its refined shape makes it a perfect candidate for everything from neat hedges to decorative borders—and it adapts well to container growing on patios or entrances.

Growing Tips for Success

Buxus 'Green Gem' is happiest in well-prepared soil that retains some moisture but drains freely. Amend heavy clay with organic matter before planting. Place shrubs about 30-40cm apart for dense, formal hedges, or further for more natural planting. Water regularly during establishment and mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Feed with a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring, and prune lightly after the risk of frost passes to maintain the desired shape. With the right care, your Buxus 'Green Gem' will stay lush, healthy, and beautifully green all year.
