Why Choose Buxus Green Gem?

Buxus ‘Green Gem’ is celebrated for its hardiness, ease of care, and versatility. It grows to a tidy mound between 60 and 90cm, making it ideal for both small and large gardens. Its fine leaf texture and uniform growth are perfect for formal paths, knot gardens, or as striking standalone specimens. Resilient to common boxwood diseases and tolerant of trimming, Buxus Green Gem thrives in full sun to part shade across much of New Zealand, adapting easily to a variety of soil types.

Versatile Uses in Your Garden

With Buxus Green Gem for sale, you can create stunning low hedges, timeless knot gardens, or frame pathways with ease. Its reliable growth and compact shape make it an outstanding structural plant, providing year-round interest. This cultivar also excels in containers, where its formal style can elevate entryways or patios. For a harmonious evergreen theme or mixed shrub borders, consider pairing with other boxwoods like Buxus sempervirens (Boxwood) or the elegant, variegated Buxus sempervirens 'variegata'.

Planting and Care Tips

Plant your Buxus Green Gem in well-drained soil and water regularly until established. It’s best to avoid waterlogging, as boxwoods prefer their roots on the dry side. Prune lightly in early summer to maintain shape and encourage dense new growth. Adding a layer of mulch will help retain moisture and suppress weeds. Buxus Green Gem responds well to an annual slow-release fertiliser in spring for the lushest foliage.
