Why Choose Bougainvillea Vines

Bougainvillea vines are prized for their intense colours, drought tolerance, and adaptability to New Zealand’s climate. These vigorous climbers thrive in sunny spots, producing masses of papery bracts in shades from fiery reds to lush purples. Once established, bougainvillea vines handle poor soils and resist pests, making them ideal for busy gardeners seeking stunning results with minimal effort.

Popular Bougainvillea Varieties in New Zealand

Every garden is unique—and so is every bougainvillea! To help you find the right plant, we proudly offer distinctive cultivars, each with its own charm. If you love rich plums and bold tones, consider Bougainvillea 'Plum Crazy'. For dramatic scarlet blooms, Bougainvillea 'Scarlet O'Hara' is an outstanding climber. If you prefer a colourful blend, Bougainvillea 'Tropical Rainbow' delivers multicoloured vibrancy that lights up any landscape.

Looking for something classic yet unique? Bougainvillea 'Killie Campbell' is celebrated for its creamy-pink blossoms. Or, add a touch of elegance with Bougainvillea 'Pretty Purple', a variety adored for its deep purple bracts.

Growing Tips for Bougainvillea Vines

Plant your bougainvillea vines in a sunny spot for best blooms—they love warmth and thrive in well-drained soil. Water regularly when establishing, but once mature, these vines are surprisingly drought-tolerant. Prune after flowering to encourage bushy growth and renew vibrant colour. Bougainvillea vines are also excellent in containers; let them spill over walls or trellises for dramatic effect.
