Why Choose Blue Hosta Plants?

Blue hosta plants stand out among perennial favourites thanks to their cool-toned, heart-shaped leaves and attractive mounding habit. Their blue hues result from a natural waxy coating that develops most vibrantly in dappled shade. These resilient perennials thrive in moist, well-drained soils and cope well with New Zealand conditions, tolerating frost and periods of dry shade once established. The lush foliage suppresses weeds, and summer brings charming lavender or white flower spikes that attract pollinators.

Blue hostas are exceptionally versatile, suitable for mass planting, edging, or as bold specimens under trees. If you're looking to add year-round structure and subtle colour to your garden, blue hosta plants are an ideal solution. Explore our selection for blue hosta plants for sale and discover gorgeous varieties for every space and style.

Top Blue Hosta Varieties for Sale

Our most popular blue hosta plants include compact and large-leafed cultivars to suit different landscape needs. For small gardens or containers, Hosta Blue Mouse Ears features tidy, rounded blue leaves and is a collector's must-have. If you crave drama and bold foliage, the enormous Hosta Blue Angel makes a stunning focal point with its impressive, arching leaves. We carefully select and grow high-quality hostas so you receive robust, healthy plants ready to settle into your garden.

Companion Plants for Blue Hostas

Give your garden extra dimension by pairing blue hosta plants with complementary colours and textures. Silver ferns, white bleeding hearts, and shade-loving grasses mingle beautifully with blue hostas. For further blue tones, consider neighbours like Phlebodium aureum Blue Star (Blue Star Fern), which offers ferny fronds in a soft blue shade for shady, damp corners or containers. Outside, grasses like Helictotrichon sempervirens (Blue Oatgrass) add movement and subtle contrast with their steely-blue tufts. To bring aromatic foliage and purple blooms to the border, try Prostanthera Eddington Blue (Mint Bush Plant), a resilient shrub that complements the cool colour palette.
