Blackberry Planting and Care Tips

Success with blackberries begins with selecting the right spot. Plant your blackberry bushes in full sun, in well-drained, fertile soil. Good airflow helps prevent disease, so allow ample space between plants. Regular mulching keeps roots cool and suppresses weeds. Water thoroughly after planting, and feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring.

Pruning is key for productive blackberry plants—trim old canes after fruiting to encourage vigorous new growth. Many varieties have upright or semi-upright habits, making them ideal for training along wires or trellises.

Enjoy Fresh Blackberries in Your Garden

Homegrown blackberries are not only packed with vitamins and antioxidants, but also add interest to desserts, baking, preserves, and smoothies.
