Why Choose Armeria alba?

Adaptable and resilient, Armeria alba brings versatility to gardens both large and small. Its compact clump-forming habit and neat, slender leaves keep gardens looking tidy year-round. The bright white blooms appear from late spring well into summer, continuing to spark interest when other flowers start fading. The plant's natural salt tolerance makes it especially suitable for coastal New Zealand conditions, but it readily adapts to urban borders and gravel gardens as well.

Planting and Care Tips

For the best results, plant your Armeria alba in a sunny spot with good drainage. It excels in poor, sandy, or rocky soils—overly rich conditions can limit flowering. Once established, Armeria alba is drought-tolerant and requires little watering. To keep your flowers prolific, simply deadhead spent blooms. In high-humidity or wet conditions, ensure excellent airflow to prevent rot. Should you notice pest problems, consider a gentle treatment like Naturally Neem Insecticide for safe, effective control.

Complement Your White Thrift

Armeria alba pairs beautifully with companion perennials and other thrift varieties. For a contrasting splash, plant alongside Armeria 'Ballerina Red' (Thrift) or the richly hued Armeria maritima 'Rubra'. For plenty of white in your border, combine with the star-shaped flowers of Armeria maritima 'Morning Star White' (Thrift). For summer-long colour, mix with Agastache aurantica Tango (Hummingbird Mint), delicate Hosta 'Golden Tiara' (Hosta Golden Tiara), or dramatic foliage from Rodgersia 'Chocolate Wing' and Eucomis Tiny Pink Coral (Lily Pineapple).
