Why Choose Ajuga reptans?

Ajuga reptans is one of the best choices for groundcover, thanks to its ability to quickly establish a lush carpet that suppresses weeds and conserves moisture. Its glossy foliage varies from deep green to bronzy-purple, setting off masses of blue flower spikes that attract beneficial pollinators such as bees. Low-growing and tolerant of a range of soil conditions, Ajuga reptans thrives beneath trees, along pathways, or cascading over rockeries. It’s an ideal candidate for containers or as living mulch in mixed perennial beds.

Explore Our Range of Ajuga Varieties

We offer a diverse selection of Ajuga reptans for sale, so you can find the perfect variety to suit your gardening style. Our range includes the classic Ajuga reptans, with its deep blue blooms, as well as specialty cultivars for added visual interest:

Ajuga reptans purpurea: This sought-after form features rich purple foliage that intensifies in cool weather, making a striking contrast in any planting scheme.
Ajuga reptans 'Alba' (White Ajuga): For a softer, elegant touch, choose this variety boasting pure white flower spikes.
Ajuga reptans variegata: Showcasing beautifully variegated leaves edged in cream, it adds brightness to shaded corners.
Ajuga reptans 'Purple Torch': This variety offers dramatic, upright purple flower spikes that create a vivid seasonal show.

How to Grow Ajuga reptans

Ajuga reptans is renowned for its low-maintenance nature. It prefers moist but well-drained soils and will tolerate both full sun and part shade, though foliage colour is most intense in partial shade. Space plants 20 to 30cm apart to allow room for spreading, and keep the soil moist while they establish. Once settled, your Ajuga reptans will require minimal care beyond the occasional tidy-up or division every few years.
