Bergenia Care and Maintenance
Bergenias are semi-drought-tolerant once established but will appreciate regular watering during prolonged dry spells. Ensure the soil is moist but not waterlogged, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot. Feed Bergenia plants with garden fertiliser in early spring to promote healthy growth and flowering. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive leaf growth at the expense of flowers. Remove dead or damaged leaves and spent flower stalks regularly to keep your Bergenia looking tidy and to encourage new growth. In autumn, you can cut back any overly long or unruly foliage to maintain the shape and keep the plants tidy.
