Hoheria angustifolia, commonly known as Houhere or Hungere, is a compact and handsome NZ native tree. It carries narrow, toothed leaves which become shrouded in masses of small white flowers in summer. The juvenile form is columnar with tangled branches but as it matures the branches broaden to give a more open structure as it grows to 6 m tall and 3 m wide. Hoheria angustifolia is commonly included in a mixed planting, used in revegetation programs, planted as a quick growing shelter tree, included in riparian plantings, or grown as a specimen.
