Alectryon excelsus, commonly known as the Titoki tree, is a handsome New Zealand native tree valued for its lush, glossy foliage and tidy, rounded form. Growing 6–10 metres tall, it makes an excellent shade or specimen tree in both urban and rural settings. Titoki is wind-tolerant, frost-hardy in most areas, and well-suited to coastal conditions. Its inconspicuous flowers are followed by striking red and black fruit, which attracts native birds and adds seasonal interest to New Zealand gardens and landscapes.

Fagus sylvatica Dawyck Gold, commonly known as the Columnar Beech Tree or Golden Beech Tree, is grown for its bright autumn colours and slender growth habit. The foliage emerges bright yellow with green overtones in spring, ages to become a rich, lime green colour, then develops golden-orange tones in autumn before falling. It grows with an upright and almost columnar shape to about 12 m tall and 3 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. This variety grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and dry periods. It will also tolerate moderate wind, though shelter and staking when young will help produce a better formed tree. F sylvatica Dawyck Gold is a fantastic tree and mature specimens make a dramatic statement in the landscape. It is also commonly used for avenue planting, screening, or added to mixed plantings in large gardens.
