Laurus nobilis (Bay Tree)
Laurus nobilis, commonly known as Laurel or Bay Tree, is an evergreen tree that features leaves that are glossy green, aromatic, and somewhat leathery in appearance. Flowers produced in spring are pale yellow, borne in clusters, and result in small, glossy, black berries. It typically grows to 12 m tall and 8 m wide but is often trimmed to much smaller sizes. Laurus nobilis is a great tree for hedging, topiary, and screening, using as a backdrop for other plants, or growing as a specimen. The leaves on this Laurel are the well-known, Bay Leaves, and can be used fresh or dry in cooking to add a fragrant flavour to dishes.

Tilia platyphyllos, commonly known as Large-Leaved Linden, is a stately deciduous tree admired for its broad, heart-shaped leaves and fragrant summer flowers. In New Zealand, it’s valued for its graceful form, dense foliage, and ability to provide excellent shade. Reaching 20–30 m tall, it suits parks, extensive gardens, and avenue plantings. The pale-yellow flowers attract bees, making it a favourite for pollinator-friendly landscapes. It thrives in deep, well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade.
