Festuca novae-zelandiae is a NZ Native Fescue grass with delicate, tawny-coloured leaves up to 60 cm long. The leaves are rough to the touch and have sharply pointed tips. Flowering stems up to 70 cm tall are borne through summer. Festuca novae-zelandiae is commonly mass-planted on banks, included in modern gardens, or used to provide contrast with darker-foliage plants. A mass planting is the best way to showcase this plant.

This compact selection produces bright green, fern-like foliage which is becomes adorned with pendulous clusters of golden-yellow flowers in spring. This evergreen tree typically grows to 4 m tall and the same wide. Sophora fulvida is ideal for smaller gardens where it is commonly grown as a specimen or added to a mixed planting.
