What Are Schefflera Types?

Schefflera is a diverse genus of plants commonly known as umbrella trees or octopus trees due to their finger-like leaflets. The most popular Schefflera types grown in New Zealand range from compact shrubs ideal for tabletops and offices to larger varieties that shine as feature plants in bright indoor spaces or sheltered outdoor areas.

Popular Schefflera Types in New Zealand

Let’s take a closer look at some of the top Schefflera types you can grow:

Schefflera arboricola

Also known as the Dwarf Umbrella Tree, Schefflera arboricola (Dwarf Umbrella Tree) is a favourite among houseplant lovers for its manageable size and robust, glossy foliage. It’s well-suited to indoor environments, thriving in bright indirect light and tolerating a range of conditions.

Schefflera arboricola variegated

Add a splash of colour to your collection with Schefflera arboricola variegated. This variety boasts beautifully patterned leaves with cream, yellow or white accents, offering even more visual interest while maintaining the easy-care reputation of arboricola.

Schefflera Green Goblin (Green Arboricola)

For compact growth and striking deep green leaves, Schefflera Green Goblin (Green Arboricola) is the perfect choice. This Schefflera type is especially popular for tabletops and smaller rooms where a lush touch is needed without overwhelming the space.

Schefflera actinophylla

Looking for a larger and more dramatic statement? Schefflera actinophylla, often called the Umbrella Tree, grows taller and can thrive as a patio or garden specimen in mild climates. Its leaves can span impressively, creating a striking focal point.

Schefflera Hong Kong

Schefflera Hong Kong is another fantastic type, renowned for its elegant leaf arrangement and upright growth habit. This selection is ideal if you want classic Schefflera looks in a practical, easy-to-manage plant.

Choosing the Right Schefflera Type

When selecting from the many Schefflera types, consider your space and lighting conditions. Smaller types like Schefflera arboricola (Dwarf Umbrella Tree) and Schefflera Green Goblin (Green Arboricola) thrive in most indoor settings, while larger varieties such as Schefflera actinophylla need room to grow. Variegated types offer extra flair if you want unique foliage.

No matter which Schefflera type you choose, these versatile plants will bring fresh, vibrant greenery and effortless elegance to your space. Explore our full range to find the perfect Schefflera for your home or garden.
