Lonicera nitida, commonly known as the Boxleaf Honeysuckle, is a hardy shrub often used instead of Buxus as a hedge. It carries dense, upright branches which host small and glossy, dark green leaves. New growth has attractive, purple-black edges as it grows to 2 m tall and 1 m wide. Lonicera nitida makes for a lovely backdrop for smaller plants and is commonly trimmed into a hedge and used for topiary.

Brunfelsia pauciflora Eximia is commonly grown as an informal hedge, added to a mixed planting, planted around outdoor living areas, used in cottage gardens, or mass planted alongside a path or on a bank.
