The packham pear tree, also known as Pear Packhams Triumph, is one of New Zealand’s favourite heritage fruit trees for home orchards and gardens. This classic variety is celebrated for its exceptional flavour and reliable cropping, producing medium to large pears with a distinctive bell shape and smooth, green skin that gradually yellows as it ripens. Developed in Australia in the late 1800s, the packham pear tree has become a staple in Kiwi gardens, well-suited to the country’s temperate climate and a must-have for anyone seeking abundant and delicious homegrown fruit.
