It typically grows to 6 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, coastal environments, and cool climates. This low maintenance conifer makes for a lovely specimen and is commonly used for avenue planting, topiary, planting up against a bland wall, or as a backdrop for smaller plants.

It bares scale-like, vivid-green leaves held on twisted and irregularly shaped branches and typically grows to 8 m tall and 2 m wide. Juniperus chinensis Kaizuka is commonly grown as a sculptural specimen, added to a mixed planting, or combined with other low growing conifers. It looks impressive when planted against a bland wall and is often cloud pruned.
