Dysoxylum spectabile, commonly known as Kohekohe or the NZ Mahogany, is a NZ native tree that grows up to 10 m tall and 4 m wide. It forms a rounded crown of large and glossy, green leaves held densely and produces clusters of fragrant, white flowers through autumn and winter which result in orange fruits. Dysoxylum spectabile is commonly grown as a specimen in parks and larger gardens, included in native and revegetation plantings, or simply planted to attract birds.
Vitex lucens (commonly known as Puriri) is a large, evergreen tree native to New Zealand’s North Island. It can grow up to 20 metres tall and is valued for its glossy green foliage, twisted trunk, and striking pink to red flowers that appear throughout the year. These blooms are followed by bright red berries that attract birds. Puriri thrives in warm, frost-free areas and is an essential species for native biodiversity and ecological restoration projects.
