Corynocarpus laevigatus, commonly known as Karaka, is a handsome, NZ native tree that features large and glossy, green leaves. The lush foliage is adorned with cream-green flowers in spring, which result in fragrant and fleshy, orange fruit in summer as it grows to 8 m tall and 5 m wide. Corynocarpus laevigatus is commonly included in coastal gardens, where it is planted as a screen or informal hedge or grown as a lovely specimen. Alectryon excelsus, commonly known as the Titoki tree, is a handsome New Zealand native tree valued for its lush, glossy foliage and tidy, rounded form. Growing 6–10 metres tall, it makes an excellent shade or specimen tree in both urban and rural settings. Titoki is wind-tolerant, frost-hardy in most areas, and well-suited to coastal conditions.
