Carex flagellifera Green is a NZ native, ornamental grass grown for its attractive foliage. It produces slender and lush, green leaves as it grows to 50 cm tall and the same wide. Carex flagellifera Green is often planted around the base of larger trees, included in border plantings, mass planted either as a groundcover or on a bank, or included in coastal gardens. It also looks great in planters, particularly when the foliage can cascade to the ground.

Carex solandri is a NZ native, ornamental grass that features attractive, dark green foliage. The foliage emerges upright and develops a gentle and graceful arch as it expands. Dark brown seed heads in summer provide an interesting element to this plant as it grows to 70 cm tall and the same wide. Carex solandri is commonly added to woodland plantings, planted in shaded areas of the garden, grown around pond or stream areas, included in a mixed planting or borders, or mass planted either on a bank or as a groundcover.
