Nandina pygmaea, commonly known as Pygmy Nandina or Dwarf Sacred Bamboo, is a compact, evergreen shrub prized for its fine, lacy foliage and seasonal colour changes. Growing to around 50 cm tall, it displays soft, green leaves that turn red and bronze in cooler months. Ideal for borders, edging, or containers, it thrives in full sun to part shade and is drought-tolerant once established. Low-maintenance and non-invasive, it’s perfect for structured or modern NZ gardens.
