Dysoxylum spectabile, commonly known as Kohekohe or the NZ Mahogany, is a NZ native tree that grows up to 10 m tall and 4 m wide. It forms a rounded crown of large and glossy, green leaves held densely and produces clusters of fragrant, white flowers through autumn and winter which result in orange fruits. Dysoxylum spectabile is commonly grown as a specimen in parks and larger gardens, included in native and revegetation plantings, or simply planted to attract birds.
Sophora chathamica, commonly known as the Coastal Kowhai, is a NZ native tree grown for its foliage and flowers. It has attractive fern-like leaves and masses of yellow flowers in spring as it grows to 10 m tall and 4 m wide. Sophora chathamica is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a native planting, added to a coastal garden, or planted to attract birds.
