Festuca novae-zelandiae is a NZ Native Fescue grass with delicate, tawny-coloured leaves up to 60 cm long. The leaves are rough to the touch and have sharply pointed tips. Flowering stems up to 70 cm tall are borne through summer. Festuca novae-zelandiae is commonly mass-planted on banks, included in modern gardens, or used to provide contrast with darker-foliage plants. A mass planting is the best way to showcase this plant.

It features green-gold leaves which are held tightly on short, slender stems and becomes adorned with white flowers though summer.
