Sophora tetraptera, commonly known as Large-Leafed Kowhai, is a NZ native tree with a slender and graceful growth habit. Trees carry fine, green foliage which is adorned with masses of golden yellow flowers in spring as it grows to 10 m tall and 3 m wide. Sophora tetraptera should be included in any native planting and is commonly grown as a specimen, planted to attract birds, or included in a mixed planting.

Juglans nigra, commonly known as Black Walnut or Eastern Black Walnut, is a large, deciduous tree grown for its edible nuts. Leaves emerge a fresh green in spring, mature to dark green in summer, then develop colourful, yellow tones in autumn before falling. Small, yellow flowers in spring result in the tasty nuts in autumn. This tree will grow to 25 m tall and 18 m wide and prefers a full sun position on a well-drained site. The Black Walnut is commonly included in large gardens as a specimen, grown as a shade tree, or simply planted for nut production.
