Magnolia grandiflora D.D. Blanchard, commonly known as the Southern Magnolia, Bull Bay, or Evergreen Magnolia, features large and fragrant, cream-white flowers. The blooms appear amidst the large and glossy, dark green leaves as it grows to 20 m tall and 15 m wide. Magnolia D.D. Blanchard is commonly grown as a specimen, added into a mixed planting in a large garden, or used in an avenue planting.
Magnolia liliiflora Nigra, commonly known as Black Lily, is a stunning tree that bears masses of large and showy, purple flowers from late winter through into summer. Flowering begins on the naked stems before the foliage emerges. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide and can easily be contained with trimming. Magnolia Nigra is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a mixed planting, added to a cottage garden, planted around outdoor living areas, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
