Aesculus carnea, commonly known as the Red Horse Chestnut, is a rounded, deciduous tree that grows to about 15 m tall and 10 m wide. The foliage comprises large and lush, dark green leaves which become adorned with masses of showy, pink-red flowers in summer. The flowers are followed by prickly, husky capsules with each containing two or three nuts. Aesculus carnea makes a great addition to parks and large gardens where it serves as both a feature and shade tree.

Juglans nigra, commonly known as Black Walnut or Eastern Black Walnut, is a large, deciduous tree grown for its edible nuts. Leaves emerge a fresh green in spring, mature to dark green in summer, then develop colourful, yellow tones in autumn before falling. Small, yellow flowers in spring result in the tasty nuts in autumn. This tree will grow to 25 m tall and 18 m wide and prefers a full sun position on a well-drained site. The Black Walnut is commonly included in large gardens as a specimen, grown as a shade tree, or simply planted for nut production.
