Phyllocladus trichomanoides, commonly known as Celery Pine, is a tall and evergreen, NZ native tree. It features interesting foliage which is celery-like in appearance. The foliage is held on rigid branches which are gradually shed as the tree ages. It is a hardy and fast growing tree, typically reaching 20 m tall and 6 m wide. Phyllocladus trichomanoides makes for a lovely specimen tree and is often included in native and revegetation plantings.
Commonly known as Red Beech, this is a large, evergreen tree native to NZ. The foliage comprises lush and glossy, dark green leaves which turn red-bronze in autumn. It grows with a broad and rounded habit to about 30 m tall and 10 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site that does not dry out. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates but does require wind protection while establishing. Red Beech makes for a lovely specimen in a larger garden or park, and is commonly added to native and revegetation plantings. It can also be planted for timber production.
