Carex secta, commonly known as Pukio or Swamp Sedge, is a striking New Zealand native sedge with bright green, arching foliage that forms large, fountain-like tussocks. Widely found in wetlands, swamps, and along stream margins, it provides excellent erosion control and serves as a habitat for wildlife. This hardy plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers consistently damp soils. Juncus edgariae, commonly known as Wiwi, is the most prevalent species of Rush in New Zealand and grows as a tight clump with bright green, stem-like leaves.
