Alnus glutinosa Imperialis is a variety of Alder grown for its attractive form and foliage. It is a reasonably fast growing, deciduous tree that will reach 15 m and 8 m wide. It carries finely divided leaves which emerge light green, darken to mid-green, then develop purple colourings in autumn before falling. Alnus glutinosa Imperialis makes for an attractive landscape specimen year-round and is also commonly used for screening and shelter, included in avenue plantings, or planting alongside waterways.
