Citrus medica sarcodactylis, commonly known as the Buddha's Hand tree, is a variety of citrus grown for its very unusual fruit, which ripens in winter. The bright yellow fruit is shaped like a hand and comprises solely of rind. They have no flesh or seeds but do have a lemon aroma. It grows densely with glossy, dark green leaves to about 3 m tall and the same width and can be trimmed as necessary. The Buddha's Hand tree is commonly grown as an interesting shrub with the fruit used to decorate bowls and platters, or sliced for drinks. It can also be maintained in a large container.
