Araucaria hetrophylla (Norfolk Pine)
Commonly known as the Norfolk Pine, this is a large, evergreen tree that grows with a distinctive, pyramidal shape. The fresh green leaves are narrow, sharply pointed, and held densely. It grows with an upright and somewhat broad habit to about 25 m tall and 10 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, dry periods, and coastal conditions. The Norfolk Pine is a great tree for shelter or screening, avenue planting, or growing as a specimen in a large garden. Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (Lawson Cypress)
Commonly known as the Lawson Cypress, this is a large conifer with an upright growth habit. The foliage is feathery, somewhat loosely held, and green-yellow in colour. Older foliage does tend to be dark green. It grows with a pyramidal habit and can reach 50 m tall and 15 m wide. It grows best on a well-drained site in full sun, and is tolerant of frost, coastal environments, cool climates, and wind. This low maintenance conifer is commonly grown for shelter, trimmed into a large hedge, planted for erosion control, or grown as a specimen in a park or large garden.
