Sequoiadendron giganteum, commonly known as the Giant Redwood, is a large, evergreen tree and aptly named for its red coloured wood. It features feathery, dark green foliage which is held on broad branches emerging off a central trunk as it grows to about 60 m tall and 20 m wide over several hundred years. The Giant Redwood is commonly grown as a specimen, planted to provide shelter, or used for timber production.
Magnolia loebneri Leonard Messel is a popular, deciduous tree due to its impressive flowering and lush foliage. Purple buds open to reveal large and showy, pink flowers in spring. The fragrant flowers are borne on naked stems, just before the foliage emerges. This tree grows compactly with a vase shape to about 6 m tall and 4 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Magnolia Leonard Messel is a prized Magnolia variety that is commonly added to a mixed planting, grown as a specimen, included in cottage gardens, or used a stunning backdrop for smaller plants.
