Platanus orientalis, commonly known as the Oriental Plane Tree, is a large and deciduous tree grown for its foliage, stature, and showy fruits. The lush foliage is dark green and develops yellow-brown tones in autumn before falling. The brown bark which peels off in large sheets to reveal a cream-white inner bark as it grows to 25 m tall and 20 m wide (noting it can be trimmed as necessary). Platanus orientalis makes a fantastic shade tree and is commonly grown as a specimen in large gardens or parks, or used in an avenue planting.
