Acer palmatum Beni Tsukasa is a variety of Japanese Maple grown for its rich display of colourful foliage. Leaves on this small, deciduous tree emerge a bright orange-yellow in spring. They age to become pink and red with green undertones before maturing to green with a light variegation. As autumn progresses, they then turn brilliant shades of red before falling. Trees will typically grow to 3 m tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow on a range of soil types but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry and are also tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry.
