Commonly known as Lamb's-ear, this herbaceous perennial gets its name from its soft and woolly, grey leaves. The leaves are thick, densely covered on both sides with the grey-silver hairs, and held off upright stems. It produces small, dark pink flowers off the same stems from spring through summer. It will tend to be evergreen in warmer climates but may die back during cold winters to regenerate again when the weather warms. It typically grows to 50 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, moderate frost, and short periods of dry. Lambs-ear is commonly used for border plantings, added to a mixed planting, maintained in a container, or planted around outdoor living areas. This is a great plant for kids to get hands on with nature.
