“Star Wars” is an outstanding variety of Magnolia due to its spectacular flowering and tidy form. It bears masses of mildly fragrant, pink flowers in spring which open to reveal a blushed white interior. The flowers are borne on the naked stems before the foliage emerges, providing for a dramatic and colourful display. The leaves emerge light green in spring, age to become a darker green, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a vase shape to about 5 m tall and the same wide, but can be trimmed as necessary. This tree grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. “Star Wars” makes for a fantastic specimen and is commonly included in a mixed planting, used in an avenue planting, or planted to border an entrance. The beauty of this tree will please no matter where it is used.
