“Firedance” is a shrub grown for its spectacularly coloured flowers and foliage. During winter it produces fragrant, spider-like, pink flowers, which are both unusual and appealing. The foliage on this bushy evergreen is borne pink-purple and ages to become dark purple. Together, the foliage and flowers afford a colourful display. It grows densely to about 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It is hardy to moderate frost and will tolerate dry periods and coastal environments. “Firedance” is commonly included in a mixed planting, added to a cottage garden, planted around outdoor living areas, trimmed into a hedge, or grown for winter colour and fragrance.
