“Huia” is a dwarf variety of the commonly known, Manuka, and is renowned for its flowering. It produces masses of single, deep pink-red flowers through winter and spring. The foliage comprises small and fragrant, dark green leaves which are held on slender stems. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 50 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade across almost all soil conditions except extreme wet. This hardy plant will survive extended dry periods, frost, cool climates, wind, and coastal conditions. “Huia” is commonly included in mixed plantings, grown in a container, planted to attract birds and bees, trimmed into a low hedge, or mass planted for a spectacular show.
