Monstera adansonii is commonly grown as a potted plant and is well-suited to an office environment where it can trail from a shelf or the like.

How to grow Monstera adansonii in NZ

Monstera adansonii grows best in New Zealand in a warm, humid environment with bright, indirect light. Plant it in a free-draining, peat-rich potting mix and provide a moss pole or trellis for climbing, or let it trail from a hanging basket. Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry, avoiding waterlogged conditions, and mist the foliage regularly to maintain humidity. Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer for vigorous growth.

Monstera adansonii care tips

Monstera adansonii thrives with bright, indirect light and moderate humidity. Water the soil when the top layer is dry, ensuring excess water can drain freely to prevent root rot. Use a well-draining potting mix and provide a moss pole or trellis if you want it to climb. Mist the leaves or use a humidifier to maintain humidity, especially in winter. Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season and prune any leggy growth to keep it looking full and healthy.
