“Stricta” is a conifer that features dense, dark green foliage, and grows with a slim, columnar habit. The foliage comprises short sprays held on erect branches. This evergreen is often referred to as the Pencil Cypress and is a common sight in formal gardens across the Mediterranean. It can grow to 20 m tall with a spread of just 75 cm though it is often trimmed to shorter heights. It grows best in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site and is tolerant of dry periods and moderate frost. The Pencil Cypress is valued for its slender, upright habit that brings an architectural effect and is great for bringing height and depth to plantings. It is perfect for planting in a series or as pillars at an entranceway.
