Buxus sempervirens ‘Handsworthiensis’ is a larger and more vigorous variety of the commonly known, Boxwood. It grows with an upright and spreading habit, hosting small and glossy, dark green leaves. The foliage is held tightly on a dense network of stems which makes it an ideal plant for hedging. It typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide but is often trimmed to smaller sizes which helps keep the plant dense. Best results with this evergreen shrub are achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of most soil types, barring extreme wet and dry, moderate frost, and cool climates. Buxus ‘Handsworthiensis’ is often trimmed into a formal hedge, used for topiary, planted as a screen, grown as a backdrop for smaller plants, or simply included in a mixed planting.
