“Westland” is a variety of Astelia that features striking and colourful fronds. The new fronds emerge a red-bronze colour and age to become silver-green. It has a compact habit and typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide. This variety prefers a well-drained spot in full sun with good air movement. It is generally intolerant of high humidity but will tolerate coastal conditions and extended periods of dry. “Westland” is commonly used to achieve a striking effect either individually or in groups. The impressive colour of this plant makes it an attractive feature in any garden and it is great for including in borders, mixed plantings, or mass planting either on a bank or as a groundcover.
