Sequoiadendron giganteum, commonly known as the Giant Redwood, is a large, evergreen tree and aptly named for its red coloured wood. It features feathery, dark green foliage which is held on broad branches emerging off a central trunk as it grows to about 60 m tall and 20 m wide over several hundred years. The Giant Redwood is commonly grown as a specimen, planted to provide shelter, or used for timber production.
Aeonium arboreum, commonly known as the Irish Rose or Tree Aeonium, is a popular and stunning succulent. It has fleshy, light green leaves that are arranged in a geometric pattern. It grows as a multi-trunked plant with bare stems to about 70 cm tall and the same wide. Aeonium arboreum is excellent for growing in a container, planting in the more arid parts of the garden, including in rock gardens, or for using in modern gardens where something unusual yet symmetrical is required.
